Lumenis One™ Laser

The Lumenis One™ laser is an FDA-approved Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, platform that offers fast and effective treatment for a variety of common skin conditions. It is a particularly effective tool for treating uneven skin pigmentation, sun damage, wrinkles and fine lines, acne scars, freckles and rosacea. The noninvasive laser is also used to reduce the appearance of leg veins, as well as to remove unwanted hair on the body.

Using multiple laser and light energies, the Lumenis One™ laser is noted for being able to perform multiple treatments on a patient during a single session. The treatment is considered safe for patients of all skin colors and types, and can be performed on various areas of the body, including the face, chest, neck or hands. The majority of patients report that this procedure is generally painless, although some may experience temporary discomfort.

The Procedure

In preparation for a Lumenis One™ laser procedure, the area of skin targeted for treatment will be cleansed. The laser’s specialized Advanced Sapphire Contact ChillTip™ is held against the skin. It is designed to maximize comfort in the treatment area so much so that it eliminates the need for any topical anesthetic. The Lumenis One™ then precisely delivers pulses of light energy into the skin.

The light energy emitted from the laser gently treats the condition at its origin point, beneath the surface of the skin, and uses heat to break down the underlying problem. The laser system features a single hand piece with seven interchangeable filters, which range in size, enabling more than one treatment to be completed within a single session.

The smaller interchangeable filters of the Lumenis One™ laser correct mild skin pigmentation issues, including rosacea, acne scars, freckles, age spots, wrinkles, facial veins and hair removal for patients with lighter skin tones. The larger interchangeable filters are typically used for the treatment of more extensive skin issues including thicker skin growths or birthmarks, such as strawberry or cherry angiomas, and superficial leg veins. Lumenis One™ laser treatments also help stimulate collagen production beneath the skin’s surface, helping the skin to look revitalized and more youthful.

The laser can be adjusted to treat the exact depth of the skin where the problem exists. The procedure lasts from 15-30 minutes and helps to revitalize the skin and make it more youthful. Usually several treatments are needed and are scheduled at four or six week intervals.

There is little to no downtime associated with the Lumenis One™ laser procedure, and patients are usually able to resume their normal activities the same day. Sun exposure should be avoided for several days following a laser treatment, and some patients may need to apply a topical ointment to their skin following treatment. Using cold compresses or ice packs may also be helpful for alleviating any swelling or discomfort, which will typically subside after a few hours.

Although laser skin treatment is considered safe for most patients and is typically performed with no long-term complications, there are certain risks associated with any type of medical procedure. While only occurring rarely, the risks may include:

  • Mild scarring
  • Changes in either skin tone or pigmentation
  • Redness
  • Skin blistering
  • Burns
  • Temporary swelling
  • Pain
  • Discomfort

Using the most advance laser technology currently available, the Lumenis One™ laser delivers safe, very effective, results for patients of all skin colors and types. Most patients achieve successful results over the course of several treatment sessions. Patients will often notice steadily continuing improvements in their skin, especially in the weeks following the procedure.

Although the overall outcomes do vary by patient, results of Lumenis One™ laser treatments usually last up to 6 months.
